About the Event
This is an annual project exploring new "focus of attention" every year. The Focus Festival welcomes all music instruments, voice, and all types of ensembles. In order to promote a high level of performance, a musical part of the Festival consists of two steps:
Audition: Students will perform their memorized piece(s) before a judge in order to qualify to perform in the Focus Festival Recital.
Recital: Besides requiring a high level of performance, the Focus Festival invties students and their teachers to explore the featured Festival theme by participating in extra-musical activities such as the Student Artwork Show, Research Show, and Forum. The purpose of these Festival events is to recognize artistic and intellectual talents of the BVMTA students.
The focus of the festival for 2027 will be the many musical styles to be found in the the Western Hemisphere, created by musicians in a wide range of styles which have become part of the fabric of our cultural life. This includes all varieties of religious and secular music — hymns, gospel, contemporary Christian, jazz, ragtime, blues, boogie-woogie, show tunes, Tin Pan Alley, top 40, Broadway, musicals, film scores, Sousa marches, folk music, country, rock, new age, Latin dances like tango, rhumba, etc. performed in arrangements from easy to advanced.
Also welcomed are “teaching pieces,” pieces from piano method books, and “concert pieces” by composers throughout the Americas - Copland, Bernstein, Barber, Chavez, Villa-Lobos, Ginastera, and more ….
